Austin Family of Leeds County, Ontario

Leeds County, Ontario, Canada was first surveyed in 1792 in preparation for the United Empire Loyalists settlers. In 1850, Leeds County merged with Grenville to create theĀ United Counties of Leeds and Grenville.

William Austin was born about 1764 in New York.

He married Elizabeth Stevenson. She was born about 1772.

Maurice Austin (1796 married Electa Robbins, daughter of Selah Robbins),
Elizabeth Austin (1796, died 1801),
Susanna Austin (1798, married Harvey Derbyshire),
William Austin, Jr. (1800, married Agnes Nicol, Isabella Nicol, and Agnes McIntire),
Gilbert Stevenson Austin (1802, married Mrs. Elizabeth Ferguson),
Mary Austin (1804, married John Donald William),
James Austin (1806),
Robert Moffet Austin (1811 married Sarah Wing), and
Charles Gordon Austin (1814, married Pamelia Tyler).

The Austin family moved to Yonge Township, Leeds County, Ontario about 1802 and appeared in the 1805 assessment

The King vs William Austin
The said defendant William Austin discharged upon proclamation from his recognizance, no prosecutor appearing against him. The recognizance of Ebenezer Moor late of Yonge, Labourer (to give evidence against William Austin for a trespass and assault) is respited until next Sessions.

At the time of the 1820 census, William and Elizabeth had 1 girl and five boys.

The first European settlements in Ontario were after the American Revolution when 5,000 loyalists left the new United States.

 
 
 

William Austin, Jr. was born on March 10, 1800 in New York. He was the son of William Austin and Elizabeth Stevenson

He married Agnes Nicol on January 1, 1822.

William and Agnes raised Lucinda Shipman. Lucinda was born about 1822 and some researchers believe she was the daughter of Olive Lee and Daniel Shipman.

He married Isabella Nicol on June 15, 1846.

He married Agnes McIntier on July 15, 1853.

William died on July 3, 1887 in Utah.
